A major part of Iota Beta Chi sorority is our involvement in the community. We do what we can to help out and give back.
Each semester we hold 4 Philanthropy events, at least 1 per month. Pledges in each semester also organize a Philanthropy event of their own, following their own passions. Participation in these events is required for all sisters; they must attend at least 2 per semester. Following are some of the events we have done in the past.
Trick or Eat- Every Halloween Iota Beta Chi teams up with Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and goes trick or treating for canned goods to give to Parker Street Food Bank. This event is an annual one that is not only extremely good for the community, but is a lot of fun too. It gives us a viable excuse to dress up and go around door to door on Halloween. And sometimes we also get candy!

Remembrance Day- Every year we also attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Parade Square, and purchase a wreath with our name on it.

Iota Beta Chi Frenchies: This is our own creation, and does double duty. We do this twice a year, usually the last meeting of each semester, coinciding with our Christmas/End of year party. Everyone brings old clothes that no longer fit, or that don’t get worn, and we sell it to each other. The clothes that don’t get sold are donated, and the money raised goes towards the Sorority to allow us to keep doing activities.

Fundraising: We fundraise for different organizations every year. The organizations we pick typically reflect the individuals within the sorority. This year we participated in a number of different activities, such as the following:
Bust a Move- This was a huge undertaking for us, and we did various fundraisers to be able to have one of our sisters participate in this event

United Way- One of our Alum works for the United Way, and we teamed up with her to do some fundraising for them.

Between Christmas and New Years we went and did New Year’s crafts with children in the IWK. Often the children are much better at these crafts than we are…
Ronald McDonald House- We cooked dinner for the children and families staying at Ronald McDonald house, those who are staying in the city for the IWK Childrens Hospital
